Library Expansion Progress Report
September / October 2003
Thank you for your continued patience. Due
to unforeseen circumstances, the awarding of
construction contracts was delayed. We are pleased
to report that all bids are now within our projected
budget, necessary permits have been obtained,
and the Board of Trustees expects to award all
contracts at their Board meeting on August 28,
2003.
When complete, the library will be 34,000 square
feet, approximately double its present size.
In addition to allowing us to significantly
increase all our book and audio-visual collections,
you can expect the following enhancements:
A "quiet" study room with seating
for ten.
An expanded meeting room that is divisible into
two rooms.
A separate young adult "teen" center.
Small conference spaces.
A craft room to be used by children and teens.
A coffee bar located in a warm/cozy periodical
reading room.
A new state-of-the-art computer center.
A room for special collections - local history.
Additional parking.
All spaces will be redesigned and made handicapped
accessible. The project will be completed in
phases so that the library will be able to serve
you throughout the demolition, construction
and renovation.
Work is expected to begin shortly.
The photos below were taken mostly in October.
They cover the demolition of the staff parking
area and storage shed, preparation for drainage
and the trenching for utility lines.
