Library Expansion Progress Report

November / December 2003

The Adventure Begins!

Shortly after the groundbreaking ceremonies in mid-September, demolition began behind the library to clear the way for our new addition. Since then, almost every day tractors and dump trucks have been working on the site. Shortly after you read this newsletter, work on the foundation will begin.

Our new building will encompass everything you have come to expect in the old building, plus so much more - more books, more study spaces, more computers, more videos, more services, and many enhancements - more of just about everything our community needs and wants.

The present building will remain open throughout the construction of the new addition. Then the library and services will move into the fully operational addition while the existing library is completely redesigned and updated. Finally, the two will be connected. Although there will be inconveniences, we anticipate that the library will be able to serve you during the entire construction period with minimal interruptions. If all goes as planned, from start to finish, the project should take approximately a year and a half to complete.

During November, a portion of our book collection had to be boxed and stored. This process took several days and resulted in a permanent wall being constructed to separate the two-tier stacks from the rest of the library.
