Custodian Work Schedule

Full-Time Custodian Work Schedule

The following tasks must be completed each day. If special circumstances develop and jobs can not be completed it is the responsibility of the custodial staff to discuss problems with the director.

• 7:30-8:00 a.m. Open library, put out flag, check custodial schedule for program set ups.
• 8:30 a.m. Open outer sliding glass doors in front and side entrances.
• 8:45-9:00 a.m. Vacuum front & side lobby, circulation desk area, director’s office, hall on second floor and employee entrance hall, public bathrooms, including vacuuming under tables, desks, and corners.
• Empty book drop.
• Check that meeting rooms are set up for any 9:00 a.m. program.  If evening custodian was not able to set up because of late running program or absence, set up for program before vacuuming assigned area.
• 8:00-1:00 p.m. Clean two staff and five public bathrooms, including washing walls and floor, restock supplies for these areas.
• Fill copy machines and turn on.
• Clean windows in front areas..
• Clean and sanitize water fountain.
• Set ups as scheduled.
• Vacuum meeting rooms again after programs. (may be done in morning or afternoon as programs permit).
• 2:00-4:30 p.m. Set ups as needed, vacuum as needed for meeting rooms.
• Check for tech services boxes that have been delivered they must be brought up to their office. .
• Remove any empty boxes as well as discarded books and books going into garbage from tech services.
• Police and spot clean area outside of building
• Lower flag, empty book drop, check bathrooms.

Full Time Custodian Daily Check List

• Book drop emptied/hang flag
• Assigned section vacuumed
• Public bathrooms cleaned and stocked
• Staff bathrooms cleaned and stocked
• Programs set up
• Community room vacuumed
• Tech services area cleaned of discards, storage, and delivered supplies
• Assigned section cleaned, windows, window sills, counters, tabletops, corners
• Book drop emptied/flag in

This is a basic list of primary tasks to be completed each day.

Tasks on as needed basis include:

Lighting
Snow clearing
Lawn care
Supplies
Hanging Art work and signs
Post Office
Repairs
Holiday decorations
Utility people
Fire Extinguishers.

Part-Time Night Custodian Work Schedule-Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Nights & Saturday’s

8:30-11:30, & 2:30-5:30 p.m., 6:00-10:00 p.m.

• Check custodial schedule for program set-ups.
• Clean assigned area section includes Reference area, stacks, magazine area, reading room, new books area, YA Bistro and LP areas.
• Clean windows, counters, table surfaces, shelving, and dusting.
• Wash computer tables, monitors, and CPU’s (use water damp cloth on monitors, NO CLEANERS)
• Empty all wastebaskets
• Clean stairs and mop.
• Check public and staff bathrooms for supplies and any necessary clean-ups.
• Wipe down staff room table vacuum.
• Vacuum all office’s and public areas. Especially if they look dirty.
• Empty book drop
• Set-up for any 9:00 a.m. programs if community room is not in use.
• After 9:00 p.m. vacuum assigned area, including under tables, desk, and corners.
• Police outside and inside of building
• Close up building.
