Library Senior Services & Collections

The East Islip Library offers a Homebound Service to our patrons who are unable to visit the library due to a temporary or permanent illness or disability. Homebound patrons will be able to choose titles from the library's large print and regular book collections.

Application and approval is necessary to qualify for this service, which is free of charge. For more information, call the Reference Desk at 581-9200 x5.

Talking Books Plus (books on cassette) is a free library service for patrons who are unable to read or use standard printed materials as a result of visual or physical limitations. Applications for this service may be picked up at the library. Participants in the program may pick up and return talking books & equipment to the library or materials can be sent to the borrowers home and returned by postage-free mail. Contact the library for details. 581-9200 Ext. 5.

The library has a selection of Large Print Books. Our Large Print books are complete and unabridged, and they weigh about the same as a traditional hardcover edition.

You can search for them in the online catalog by clicking "modify search" and "choose Large Print Books". Not all books are published in Large Print, but if you do not see something you want, ask at the Reference Desk and we may be able to interlibrary loan it for you.

What you can find in our collection:

Large Print Magazines

Nat-Center News (Helen Keller National Center for Deaf/Blind Youths & Adults)

Large Print Books

Large Print Librafax

Reader's Digest

New York Times Weekly

The East Islip Public Library and the East Islip Historical Society (EIHS) are proud to promote the use of the new Local History Room (LHR) located in the lower level of the library.
In the LHR you will find the comprehensive Bob Muller collection of lighthouse materials, the library’s collection of books and materials on Long Island and New York State, the library’s collection of microfilm and microfiche and the East Islip Historical Society’s collection of photos, historical objects, oral histories and more.
Starting in January, volunteers from the EIHS will be staffing the room on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. Be sure to visit the LHR and chat about the history of our community with a local expert.
