211 Long Island
211 Long Island provides detailed information on over 10,000 resources for help and assistance in a range of areas related to health and human services. The 211 database is managed by Middle Country Public Library and served Long Island for many years as the Community Resource Database of Long Island. 211 Long Island is supported by Suffolk County government, Hagedorn Foundation, United Way of Long Island and Middle Country Library Foundation.

American Academy of Pediatrics
Their “You and Your Family” section offers a parent resource guide, a pediatric referral service, an immunization schedule, child care books and updates on pediatric health issues.

Autism Society of America
Offers support and educational materials for children, adolescents, and adults (and their families) with autism and related disorders including Asperger’s Syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder. A yearly conference sponsored by the society is available providing a comprehensive understanding and update on autism and related disorders.

BabyCenter
Information for parents and advice from experts on topics from pre-conception through toddlerhood.

Child Care Council of Suffolk, Inc.

Child Care Council of Nassau, Inc.
Provides child care resources and referral, and supports children, families, employers, providers and the public to ensure that quality child care takes its place as an integral part of society. Also offers consultation on child care options and community education and advocacy. The Councils act as central planning and coordinating agencies for child care in Suffolk and Nassau Counties.

Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorders (CHADD)
This non-profit parent-based organization provides links to information regarding Attention Deficit Disorder including treatment, legal rights and services, parenting and ADD in the classroom. Included is information about materials offered by CHADD.

Early Years Institute
The Early Years Institute (EYI) brings communities together to expand and improve quality learning opportunities for young children. Offers “Pick-a-Park”, a searchable database with details of over 700 Long Island Parks.

Get Ready to Read
This website from the National Center for Learning Disabilities is designed to help educators, parents, and caregivers identify difficulties with reading in the critical early stages of a child’s development. Also features three interactive games to use online. Site can be accessed in English or Spanish.

Homeschool World
Obtain the latest homeschooling news and articles. This site is updated very frequently and is created by the publishers of Practical Homeschooling and Homeschool PC.

Kids Health
Nemours Foundation site that offers parents sections on general medicine and surgical health issues. Articles on asthma and allergies, bones and muscles, ear, nose and throat, emergencies, fevers, growth and development, infection pain, sleep and vaccines.

National Down Syndrome Society
NDSS offers education, research and advocacy at this site with general, clinical and special programs information, as well as links to other sites on the Internet focusing on Down Syndrome.

New York State Citizens’ Coalition for Children
Organization of 134 volunteer adoptive and foster parents groups from every region of New York State. Offers: General New York State Citizens’ Coalition for Children information, Foster Care Rates and Adoption Subsidy, Resources for Parent Groups and articles.

New York State Department of Health
Governmental site that offers many features including: Directory Services, Vital Records, Information for Health Care Providers, Information for Consumers, Health Care Data for Researchers, Public Health Forum and Other Health Related Sites.

New York State Education Department
Comprehensive site that gives viewers the following choices: State Board of Regents, Current Publications, Programs and Services, Directories and Information, Internet Resources, New York State Web, Teacher Certification, Professional Licensing, New York State Museum, New York State Library, New York State Archives and Employment Opportunities.

New York State Family Resources
Created by an advisory group of parenting educators, librarians, and experts in the field of family support, you can seartch this site for books, multimedia materials, pamphlets, and listings of state and other organizations that serve children and families, on a wide variety of subject areas from child development to children with special needs to child safety and family literacy.

New York State Government Information Locator Service
This website provides access to New York State Government Agencies, the State Legislature and the Judiciary. Helpful information includes a phone directory of government offices.

PBS for Parents
The website of the Public Broadcasting Station offers an assortment of topics from which to choose including: Child Development, Education, Food & Fitness, Fun & Games, and Issues & Advice.

Scholastic for Parents
Features information on a variety of topics including: Books & Reading, Child Development, School Help, Activities, and Parent Guides.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Official website offers news and a consumer health information finder, consumer information, topical highlights of national interest such as the “Back to Sleep” campaign to help prevent SIDS, and a seach feature.

Zero to Three
The website of the National Center for Infants, Toddlers and Families has information for professionals and for parents. Professional information includes programs and services, a bookstore, National Training Institute, newsroom and sponsorship opportunities. Parent section includes information on play, beginning literacy, bookstore and child development, including a special section on the development of the brain.
