Caras, Roger. A World Full of Animals: The Roger Caras Story
The author relates his most memorable moments in observing animals in the wild -- snakes and spiders in an army camp in Louisiana, penguins in Antarctica, a variety of animals in Africa, and elephants in Sri Lanka. Her marvelously detailed, engagingly personal entries chronicle 25 trying months of claustrophobic, quarrelsome intimacy with her parents, sister, a second family, and a middle-aged dentist who has little tolerance for Anne's vivacity. Children's author, Yoshiko Uchido, describes growing up in Berkeley, California, as a Nisei, second generation Japanese American, and her family's internment in a Nevada concentration camp during World War II. JB UCHIDA

Wilder, Laura. On the Way Home: The Diary of a Trip from South Dakota to Mansfield, Missouri, in 1894.

A Canadian immigrant, Zhang tells the story of his life in the hope that "it will give others some insight into the human dimension of China over the past half century.
