Autorenewal Monitors Your Checkouts
In January, the Suffolk County Library System introduced a feature
designed to make library use cheaper and more convenient. The Auto Renewal
system will monitor the status of all items checked out to a patron and
renew any eligible items that are within three days of their due date. A notification
will be sent to patrons via email. Please note that some items do not
autorenew (eg. items with loan periods of 3 days or less, such as New
DVDs, or items with holds ). Patrons will be notified about these items
coming due in the normal fashion. Also note that library patrons must sign
up for this service by logging into their account and opting in, library staff
cannot do it for them. Please contact the Reference Desk if you have any
questions regarding this new feature.
Do You Need Help Using the Library's Electronic Resources?
If you have a mobile device that you have a question about or a problem with, you can make an appointment with one of our librarians to assist you with basic technology questions. Sorry, we cannot repair or diagnose a problem with your device or computer. Please contact the Reference Desk to make an appointment.
Online Resources
for School
With school in full swing it’s a good time to remind students young and old about all the online resources available with their East Islip Library card. Whether they are just starting to gather information or are in the middle of a project, the databases on Live-brary.com can help students find appropriate age-level information in an efficient manner. The History Reference Center, Student Research Center and Grolier Online databases are excellent places to start a research project and contain information from a wide range of sources that include magazines, reference books, encyclopedias, primary source documents and more. Ebsco’s Masterfile contains thousands of periodicals, including peer-reviewed journals, which contain articles on a wide range of subjects. These databases can be accessed through the Live-brary link on our home page. The list of electronic resources is extensive, so if you’re not sure where to find what you’re looking for, please contact our Reference Desk or help@eipl.org.
Want to learn another language?
We have resources to help. Pronunciator is an online language learning
service that covers 75 languages, including English as a Second
Language (ESL). Learn how to speak a foreign language with the help
of pronunciation analysis, virtual coaches, simulated conversations,
scored quizzes, and downloadable audio lessons and phrasebooks.
Courses are designed for children and adults from beginners to advanced
learners. Pronunciator is included with your library card - but
you will have to create an account.
Wireless Printing at the East Islip Library
The East Islip Library now supports wireless printing for Windows laptops. Patrons in the library can download the printer driver from our home page and print directly to our copier/scan station. We hope to have printing available for Macs soon. Also remember that we have a limited number of laptops that we loan to patrons for in-library use. Patrons must have an East Islip Library card in good standing and a New York State driver’s license or non-drivers ID. This is handy when you need to keep an eye on your child in the Children’s Room but also want to get some work done, or if you need to spread out a bunch of documents at a table while you work. Please visit the Circulation Desk to inquire about borrowing a laptop.
