Welcome to a wealth of information about careers and colleges.  The librarians on staff have prepared an inclusive list of links to aid you in finding information about employment and educational opportunities.  In addition to the web links listed below, the library houses a large collection of books on careers, exams, civil service, colleges, and financial aid. Be sure to come into the library and borrow these useful materials.

Professional Career Counseling Servicescareer counselor

A trained Career Counselor is available by appointment for a one-on-one interview with any adult resident of the East Islip Library District. You will be able to receive help with writing a resume and cover letter, preparing for a job interview, exploring career changes and more.  The counselor will be at the library on select Thursdays from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Call the reference desk to make an appointment (581-9200 x 5).

Small Business Development Center
The SBDC provides an extensive variety of services to Long Island's small businesses, including award-winning expertise in childcare, procurement, and minority certification. The SBDC at Farmingdale State has a bilingual advisor, proficient in Spanish. They also have a full-time counselor dedicated to the business needs of veterans. Appointments are available 8:30 to 5:00, Monday through Friday. Their main office is located on the campus of Farmingdale State University of New York in the Campus Commons Building at (631) 420-2765. In addition, the center offers services at satellite locations in Hempstead and at C.W. Post in Brookville.

State Jobs NY - The purpose of this site is to provide a way for existing state employees to identify transfer and promotion opportunities, and to provide a way for state agencies to publicize their vacancies to this specialized market.  Eligibility for the majority of jobs listed here requires that the candidate be a state employee with qualifying service and / or experience.

Suffolk County Civil Service - The Suffolk County Department of Civil Service is responsible for overseeing personnel actions taken by some 241 employing jurisdictions including school districts, towns, villages water districts, library districts, etc. Collectively, these jurisdictions employ some 40,000 individuals.  The majority of all jobs fall within the competitive class, which is characterized by examinations used to ascertain the relative merit and fitness of candidates. Announcements for current examinations are available on this site by clicking on Current List of Exams. Examination announcements are also posted in the Hauppauge Office of the Suffolk County Department of Civil Service and at our Riverhead Office located in the Riverhead County Center.
