Budget Message: No Tax Increase!
In the midst of this very challenging time we hope that you and your family are healthy and safe. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s proposed budget vote and trustee election, which had been scheduled for April 7, 2020, had to be canceled.
The library plans to hold this vote and election on
Tuesday, June 9th with the school district via absentee ballot.
After careful consideration of everyone’s current financial situation, the East Islip Library’s Board of Trustees decided to revise the proposed budget so that there will be no increased tax burden. Every registered voter in the school district will be receiving an absentee ballot by mail to be returned in a postage paid envelope that will be provided. All absentee ballots must be received in the office of the School District Clerk not later than Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 5 p.m. This budget proposal, while not increasing taxes, allows the library to operate more effectively by moving funds to better reflect our current operations. Please vote on June 9th and help us continue our tradition of excellence in library services.
Thank you!

Library Board Meeting:
There will be a board meeting by teleconference on
May 28, 2020 for a budget hearing at 5:30 p.m.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR LIBRARY DIRECTOR:

The Library Board of Trustees and I are committed to protecting the health and safety of our patrons and staff from unnecessary COVID-19 exposure. In accordance with Governor Cuomo’s “New York on Pause” and related Executive Orders, the East Islip Public Library remains temporarily closed to limit the spread of this disease. During these uncertain times, I hope you will consider the Library a place to turn to for information, solace and support. The Library has many online resources accessible 24 hours per day through our website, including an expansive collection of books, movies, music, magazines and learning software. And, while we have canceled in-person programs, our librarians are working hard to bring you a wide array of virtual experiences (cooking classes, story times, book discussions, etc.) through social media with some of your favorite librarians and programmers. I am also proud to tell you that, along with other Suffolk County libraries, the Library’s 3D Printer has been utilized to print parts for face shields which we delivered to all our local fire depts., the Exchange Ambulance Company, the ASPCA, and Stony Brook Hospital. As we live through this pandemic that has dramatically changed our lives, we continue to plan for reopening. We are carefully monitoring the current situation, installing shields to protect you and our staff and look forward to expanding our services soon. On June 9th the Library will be having our annual vote and trustee election via absentee ballot along with the School District. Because of these unusual economic times, the Library Board of Trustees unanimously decided to put forth a proposed budget with a zero percent increase. Although this budget proposal will not increase taxes, it will more accurately reflect our financial circumstances during this unusual time. So, please vote on the 9th. Your entire East Islip Public Library family misses you! We wish you all good health and if there is anything we can do to serve you during this period of closure, please do not hesitate to email us at help@eipl.org

Thank you, Guy Edwards
